A Big Boy Bed

As my nesting has been going on I have made sure to clean and organize every single part of our place. I still have a lot to do, but I have gotten a lot done also. Today's task was to set up our son's "big boy" twin size bed that has been in the garage for about a year. It was kindly donated by family, but he hasn't been ready until now.

He is a great sleeper, and we also have to prepare for the new baby. I felt it was right to bring in the bed. He was so excited! He played and bounced on it all day. He loved knowing this fun new thing was his. He helped me when I put on all the bedding, and he said he loved the new "Sheeps" I put on his bed. He curled up under his blankets and sheeps and went right to sleep no trouble.

Tomorrow I will take his tent and add it over the top to help him have some more fun, to get it out of the way, and to help give myself security in feeling like he won't be falling out of bed. This has been a fun time for all of us. Hopefully, he sleeps well in it, since he is now free to come out whenever he wishes.

Discovering Bugs

We are fortunate to have a small yard to play in at our duplex apartment. This gives us grass, flowers, plants, and room to play and explore. Lately, we have been exploring bugs.

We have this healthy clover patch growing in the front yard, which is home to a lot of bright red, adorable ladybugs. My son loves to go through and find one to hold every time we leave the house.

He has also been on the hunt for rollie pollies, said by him, "Low polls", and he makes sure to investigate where every single ant is headed.

It's fun to watch him get in that cute little toddler squat and watch the small world around him, as he still learns so much about the big world he lives in.

A Short Vegas Trip

For my brother-in-law's 30th birthday celebration, we all headed up to Vegas for a couple days. We were going to leave our son at home, but after I gave it some thought, I felt it was better to bring him. Being pregnant I wouldn't be able to participate in much, not that I wanted to anyway. So, I would need a play buddy while everyone else parties. I'm so glad I made that decision too, he had such a blast the whole time. I love taking him on vacations, and any other trip in which he can learn and explore. My husband enjoys being with him also, he is a fun and easy kid. We both still feel we get a lot of freedom with him. Let's see how that goes when baby 2 arrives.

We stayed downtown, and learned, it really isn't a place for kids, but the choice of hotel was not up to us. You should stay on the strip if you have little ones. There are only a couple arcades downtown and they aren't very good. We played at our own hotel's arcade, the Golden Nugget, and that occupied about 20 minutes. Not very good games, most of them broken. Then we hunted down another arcade at the California Club, I think. It was even dirtier and more broken down then our arcade, but it kept us occupied a little bit longer. Almost an hour.










The rest of our time spent on Fremont street, our son danced around on the large circles on the ground, we did some shopping, napping, and played with toys in the room. I decided to spoil myself one of the days. While my son took a nap in the hotel room, and everyone else was out gambling, I ordered me some room service. It was sooo good, and sooo expensive. But I deserved it. I thought I had read online that there was free Internet at the Golden Nugget, but I was wrong. It was ridiculously expensive. Good thing I guess, I might have spent all the vacation on the net :)



The highlight of the whole trip was taking a trip to the strip one of the nights. It was just the three of us and we got some dinner at Outback, then saw the pirate ships at Treasure Island, the Mirage's volcano and we passed the Bellagio's water show, but our son was already passed out by that show. We learned it's probably better to just take the strip bus from Fremont street down the strip, instead of driving in all that traffic. Also, if you are going to a certain spot, park at the closest hotel possible. We parked at Paris, walked all the way to Treasure Island and then walked back. With all the people it was a one hour walk each way. No wonder our son passed out on the way back. He got a lot of free rides up on Dad's shoulders, but it was still exhausting. I will never do that again, while pregnant.




Finally, we did check out the new Aria hotel. They have some water tornado pipes set up with various cool colors shinning through them. It's quite funny actually, because you find people rubbing the tops of these plastic tubes, thinking they are creating the tornadoes. In fact, they are just rubbing their hands all over germs and watching the inevitable happen. But they did entertain our two year old for a while. He just wanted to watch the water spin and the colors flash.



Next time we get a chance to take a vacation to Vegas, we are planning on staying at Circus Circus. The kids will really enjoy themselves there. We will also be sure to spend plenty of tip out on the strip while all the shows play. We didn't get to see the pirate ship show at Treasure Island. Seeing the pirate ships had him so excited, I can imagine was watching them in action would do!

Valentine Fun

Cheap, easy, and fun to make.... these valentines are a heartfelt way for your child (or you) to spread the love. My two year old had a blast doing most of the work, I helped with glue and scissors of course. They can also be altered for any holiday as neat gift tags.

Step 1: Have your child paint a large sheet of construction paper, any way they wish. The smudgy mess of two year old art, actually comes out quite nice in the end.

Step 2: When dry, tear into small (but not too small) pieces. About one inch, odd shapes should be great.
Step 3: Arrange onto another large sheet of construction. Paint over the whole thing with white glue. Sprinkle some glitter over the wet glue. Let dry again.

Step 4: When dry use a stencil, cookie cutter, or freehand hearts all over the sheet of art. Cut them out and write the names of your loved ones on the back of each. These cute valentines are sure to bring a smile to the face of anyone who receives them. And your child will feel proud to have done most of the work.

Half White Walls

Being half way through the pregnancy, and wanting to accomplish as much as possible while I still feel good, I thought it would be a wonderful idea to repaint the hallway. There were toddler crayon marks all over and a general dirty look from being almost 3 years since we moved in and painted.

I fished out all my supplies from the garage. I found a leftover almost empty gallon of flat white, which is what was on the walls, and then I found another full gallon of white. Setting up shop was easy, and so was keeping my toddler out of the way while I got to work. Things were going great, that is, until I ran out of that small amount of flat white (which surprisingly covered a large area). Not thinking anything was wrong I reach for the second gallon. Well, that is about the time I decided to read the label better and I realized I was holding a gallon of SEMI GLOSS white. Of course, that wouldn't work. So, there sit the walls, half painted, and in need of a gallon of flat white. I plan to find some in the garage tomorrow, there must be some in there to allow me to finish my rather small hallway.
