Kittens Have Nails

When your toddler picks up a kitten, who would rather he not, he may end up looking like a tiger.

This is not his week for animals.

Dogs Have Teeth

My Husband's Grandma owns this dog. I do not like this dog, based off his energy. I didn't trust the dog. After one day of him acting fine with my son I misjudged the dog and trusted him. He bit my son.

Everyone else was in the living room while I sat in the dining room enjoying my Tito's Taco. My son had entered the room and proceeded to go play with the dog as usual. The dog hangs out in the same corner of the room all the time, so my son had gotten down there to try and pet him. The next thing I know I am flying through the pulled out chairs to grab my son up hardly before the growl and snap had ended. I knew what happened and I tried to save him the best I could.

I ran to the sink thinking he might have a bloody hand, then I learned it was his cheek that had been bitten. I went grabbing for something frozen to aid his swollen cheek and it took three people to locate something soft enough to press on his face. I look back now I realize they had nothing but meat in that freezer and even that would have done at the moment, but we had discovered a small bag of corn left over. He didn't like the cold that much as he kept pawing at his face to detect the cause of this pain he was experiencing. He was poking and crying, all the while both him and I had far too many faces located only three inches away that we both wanted to scream at them to back up. Yet I refrained, trying to keep the peace in this rough moment, and try not to take anything out on them. He refrained because the pain was a far bigger priority.

After continuously moving away from them and 16 hints not taken, my son began to calm down. This house had a lost bottle of peroxide that someone hunted down and that was it. Nothing to clean wound, and to be honest, that worries me a bit. Nevertheless, I took care of my son, calmed him down, and cleaned him up. I know how to take care of my son very well despite what many other may feel about me. I do not care what they think.

I am happy to announce that it only took once for my son to learn this lesson, he wouldn't go anywhere near the dog after this. Also, a couple hours later when we left this residence, the swelling had gone down and he was feeling wonderful again. Right before bed I took another picture and it looks like nothing compared to the first this I saw marking up his precious face earlier this afternoon.

The Case of the Burning Poop

To get you to where I was, my son had a week long stomach virus so I was still on constant look out for symptoms even though he had been in the clear for three days. Also, after being out earlier in the day and being told by my husband that he was whining the whole time, I also was looking for reasons as to why he would be cranky.

Of course men might always think babies are just fussing. They don't all comprehend that when babies cannot tell you what they want, they cry, and he just thinks I'm insane for saying I can tell the difference between our sons many cries.

He started to fuss, and it gradually grew to more of a cry. On my symptom lookout I had noticed he was pretty bloated so I began to get concerned at this point. I had just heard him grunt a little, but since he had two full poops during the day it didn't cross my mind he had pooped again. Once he began to really cry I knew for sure something was up and I tried to figure it out. I began to take off his clothes to figure it out. I checked his diaper and low and behold he HAD pooped again . Just a little, and it hadn't been there longer than 10 minutes but he was now screaming in pain. I took his diapers off and found out in that short amount of time he was getting severe diaper rash. I don't know what I fed him that could have been so acidic or anything else that would burn him so bad. So I couldn't wipe because that clearly hurt him. I just placed him in the bath. He stayed fussy most of the time but tried to play. After the bath he was ok until I rubbed the ButtPaste on him. He screamed some more. I struggled to finish dressing him, gave him his bottle of milk and rocked him to sleep.

What I learned is that it's still the best feeling in the world to be able to hold and soothe your child. Also, never underestimate the amount of poop in your child. If something is wrong always check the diaper.

Disturbing Mom's Play Time

I sat there looking at my son playing with his toys peacefully by himself. I wondered why it was exactly that in the last 6 games of Scattergories I played with my husband and friends, my son only came over to sit, tug and mess with me. Also, why was it that he only paid attention to me while the timer was on and I was working, yet when the timer went off (signaling the end of that round) it was as if a timer was going off for him as well that said, "Time to stop bugging mom, since she is no longer busy".

Sick Toddler

Having a sick toddler is no fun, any parent will tell you the same. I've been fortunate enough that my son hasn't really been sick in his life. Apart from two times in which he got the sniffles this would be is first sickness, and even so it's not that bad.

Three days in and two pukes per day I have picked up a few tips on how to make life with a sick toddler a little easier. I know this is so minor in comparison to some horrible viruses that can go around, but I still learned a few things. In fact as I type this I am still figuring he isn't over this illness and more drama and puke could lie ahead. I pry to the gods not of course, but I will hang on and endure what comes.

While you kids are sick, line their beds if you haven't already with a waterproof mattress pad or a trash bag. Although, after one puking on the mattress pad you might need a trash bag anyway, so make sure to have a few on hand.

Lots of laundry soap and bleach will be needed. You are going to end up doing a great deal of laundry as everything in your house becomes drenched in vomit. Luckily for you it comes at separate times in smaller amounts. Imagine all of their puke all together at once.... EW!

Some kids do have an attachment to a certain blanket or stuffed animal. I imagine that can make it very difficult to let go of during this time of need they will have, but if it's puke covered it clearly needs to separate from your child for a little while. If you have a child like mine who isn't attached to anything really then do yourself a favor and remove all the harder to wash items like teddy bears, from a 2 foot circle around them. You'll thank yourself much later.

Get out a large pan and lug it around the house with you and your child. Especially if you have a child too young to even know when it is coming, once you hear that telltale sign, or see it coming out, grab the pot from next to you and catch as much as possible. It will reduce laundry, save cleaning overall, and can easily be dumped into the toilet.

Keep Lysol and bleach on hand to kill germs on anything they com in contact with to reduce the risk of spreading the virus as much as possible. Wash the big pot with really hot soapy water, really well. Spray the beds, blankets, and door handles with Lysol. Add just a dash of bleach to the sink and laundry if you can.

Keep the fluids going. I'm sure I don't have to remind anyone of this but sometimes kids don;t like consuming much when they feel sick. Many kids do not like the taste of Pedialyte so try mixing it with juice and water to somewhat conceal it's flavor. Or try smart water, which has electrolytes in it. If you child can handle milk and dairy try giving pediasure to help with nutrients. There is the BRAT diet to follow also. Banana, rice, applesauce, toast. My son only liked the toast and that's all he consumed today. Try not to worry about how much they eat. Focus on fluids and encourage them to eat whenever they want. Keep the foods simple and somewhat bland to not further upset their stomach. If you aren't sure about giving your child something or you suspect dehydration, please consult your pediatrician.

Remember they will get through this flu, and pray that you will not be sick at the same time, but even if you are know what you have to do and try your best to stay calm and relax as much as possible. Being sick is not something toddler are used to and it can scare them. Be extra patient with them and their whining. Take time to cuddle them and make them feel secure. Stand by them when they get sick and show them your love.

The Best Sweet Treat for a Mom

Sometimes I just want to go to the market and buy all the candy bars we can afford, then come home and gobble them all up. But realistically I know I would regret that in so many ways. Satisfying a sweet tooth and not over indulging on the calories is a hard thing to do. Luckily I have found heaven.

OK it might not be the best treat there is but it tastes friggin' amazing and it has some health to it. Banana Nutella Bread I will call it.

Get a slice of your favorite bread. I LOVE to use fresh buttermilk or pita bread.
Spread yummy Nutella all over it.
Slice up a banana as think as you would like and lay all over the Nutella smothered bread.
INDULGE!!
I could eat this all day!
