A Bad Fall

The scrape looked worse in person.

Well, I went back to school! I am now studying at college for child development! I'm very excited, and it is a major reason for the delay in any posts lately. Also, I enjoy posting pictures with my posts, and for some reason my camera isn't connecting to my computer properly. I figured it out this evening and I finally got some of my pictures off.

The first major injury has occurred.

I was having a stressful morning, arguing with my husband, before I left to visit my parents for the day. I was already well on my way when I realized I had forgotten the item that was a huge part of the reason I was travelling their way. I knew I would regret not giving it to them, and I also wasn't sure when I would be back to see them anytime soon. 25 miles isn't that bad, but it takes a toll when you do it often. Needless to say, when I arrived back home to pick up the object, I was slightly more agitated. I snatched up the object and headed right back out the door.

I watched my son start his normal decent down the two small steps on the front porch and then I turned to close and lock the door. Just as I turned back around to grab my son and head back to the car I witnessed him take a nasty face plant right into the concrete. I thought he was crawling down the steps when he did this, looking back though I am not certain. He could have been walking down. Both ways he can do with ease, today was just an accident.

I think my instinct was a touch ahead of the game because I threw everything in my hands into the air and yelled, "Oh no BABY!" what seemed like 2 minutes before he even began to cry. I guess I knew what had happened way before he did. Nothing showed immediately, but I knew it was bad so I scrambled to find the keys I had thrown, rushed to unlock the door and flung it open running to the back of the house towards the bathroom to investigate further.

In the bathroom I found there was no blood, but a pretty nasty scrape. I applied some witch hazel to clean the wound area. He cried a lot the whole time. It took my husband about 5-6 minutes to realize that the events taking place were not the norm and he joined us in the bathroom. Our son went to him and cried in him arms for a while. I, in the meantime, began to break down and cry as well. The pressure and stress from the day just boiled over and exploded once my baby was hurt. I was overwhelmed, and I also felt for him. Once I had a good release of stress through tears, I went to the computer to look up some details on head injuries, just in case. He hit smack dab on the forehead but I just wanted to know what to look for in a concussion. Eventually him and I were both calm again, though his face hurt for quite a while.

He was cleaned up and ready to go again, and so was I. He really wanted to go see his Granny and Papa so we headed back out to their house. (All the while I was fighting off the urge to wonder why I was so anal that I HAD to come back to get that object, but knowing to trust my instinct and everything happens for a reason)

The rest of the day went well, he cheered right up, and by the next day he had full scabs. I put on A&D ointment and Neosporin alternating or the next 4 days. He kept reminding me that his nose hurt, and when he looked in the mirror he would exclaim, "Owie!"

One night while I am sitting at the computer doing school work (all my classes are online this semester) he comes over and hands me a small cardboard looking thing. It's so tiny and I ask him if he is tearing his books, but I do not look at him much. Then he comes back to me with another piece slightly bigger this time. After throwing them both in the trash (and rolling them around in my fingers in hopes to figure them out) I turn around to ask him which book he is tearing up (something he does often) and I am stopped mid sentence when I points to his nose. There are NO MORE SCABS ON IT! I was grossed out that I had just been handling the boys nose scabs. EW! Scabs are gross when they are not mine. Anyway, the next day all the small moist ones remaining on his head wiped right off with a wash cloth and he has been healed up beautifully ever since. With only a few random phantom pains.

I contribute the fast healing to the ointments applied and the fact that he eats his "Kitties" daily (his vitamins).
