Buggin'

Well, it's getting late and both babies are asleep. I should be sleeping too. I didn't get enough sleep last night, I yawned all day, and I have another long day out ahead of me. But I can't sleep, and I'm stressed out so I keep on playing episodes of "Sex and the City" in hopes of distressing long enough to figure out what to do. Bugs are taking over my life this evening.

My first thing on the subject is going to be my confession. I am very green, I love being Eco conscious and friendly in every way possible. I make my own cosmetics and toiletries, I make my own cleaning products, I use cloth diapers, I use cloth bags, I use a Diva Cup, and plenty more. However, when it comes to BUGS I am the biggest sissy and I HAVE to use chemicals. I do surround my house in D.E. as a natural way to deter the bugs, but I also have to use some spray to help keep them away. I buy the spray that is supposed to last 9-12 months, I feel it lasts only 3. It's been due time to add more and then the baby came and I have been busy.

Two days ago, our next door neighbor had her tree/bushes cut back. She is on the side of our duplex that our back door is on and we have a metal screen on the door, so I always leave the back door open in nice weather. I closed the door for the noise that day. Later that evening, I opened it to a bunch of tiny little flying bugs who decided to invite themselves in. I closed all the windows and doors on that side of the house and kept them shut all day. Yesterday, I killed bugs all day and night. Today, we have had the door open all day. Tonight, BUGS.

I am sitting here shopping for clothes that I desperately need after having my daughter. I go into the kitchen to grab my card to pay and I notice the flying bugs all over the kitchen window, wall, and light. I'd estimated 25+ of them. As I walk into the kitchen, a large COCKROACH walks by in front of me. WTF!? I'm a super clean person, in fact I lose sleep because I enjoy cleaning so much. I spray this stuff (which obviously needs a new coat) I use D.E., what else can I do? I can't handle these bugs.

My solution? I placed a cup over the cockroach for my husband to take care of when he wakes. I'd love to vacuum up all the flying bugs, but of course my husband and kids are asleep. I think the bugs will be gone in the morning :( If they are not, I will vacuum them then. The hamster is running away in his wheel annoying the crap outta me, I need to be sleeping, but I have to shower and I am scared to find out what lurks in the bathroom.

Ok, a hard mommy night, but I SO wish I had a maid right now to take care of this for me, and enough money for a pest control service to be here every week so I never have this problem again.

Potty Trained.... or not?

Everything was going great with the potty training. At just over 2 and a half years old, with just a few weeks before the birth of our daughter, we were able to announce our son was officially potty trained. He was only wearing diapers at night for a while, then when they were dry for over a week I started to take them off and let him sleep in underwear. He was getting up in the middle of every night to go to the bathroom on his own. He was fully potty trained for a good 2-3 weeks. Then our daughter was born.

Most people automatically assume that when the second child comes along, the first will feel left out, angry, jealous, or some combination of a whole list of emotions. This hasn't happened with our son for the last three weeks our daughter as been with us, at least, not that we suspect. We are very good about treating him the same way we always have, and making extra time just for him. However, day two and three after bringing her home, he wet the bed. I know big change can make a child insecure and I also know that potty training can take a step backward once a new baby arrives. I have been patient with him about it. I started using the pull ups again at night. (which I was previously upset about buying since he got "officially" trained right after I bought them) They have stayed dry for almost three weeks. He had one more accident during naptime yesterday. I think that was due to him drinking a lot before his nap though.

What I wonder now.... is it really the big change of his new baby sister? Is it just that he hasn't been getting as much sleep (due to her waking during the night) and he is so tired that he is sleeping through the sensations to go? Is this just normal for potty training regardless of a new baby?

Three accidents in three weeks, for a 2 and a half year old is not bad in my opinion. I just wonder.

Gross Adventures With My Son

***Warning: Poop related blog. The sensitive should turn away***

Yesterday afternoon, I found myself sitting on the couch with the baby, while my son was in the other room screaming, "MaaaaaaaaMaaaaaaa!" I thought he was in his bedroom and was just being lazy about showing me something so I kinda ignored him. Then, finally, at the end of his screaming he says, "Went poop!" Well, that is something we've been trying to get him to do so we can wipe his butt for him, keeping him clean. I didn't realize he'd been sitting there in the bathroom the whole time trying to get me to come clean him. When I arrived, he announced he had poop on his hand. Don't know how or why, but he did. Then, I also realized, right before he had left to go to the bathroom, he told me his tummy hurt and needed a band-aid. I thought it was because he bumped it, but no, it was because it actually hurt..... his poop told the story. I cleaned him up and moved on with life.

A few hours later, we had friends over with their two kids. Our son must have been embarrassed to call me in to clean him, which would mean announcing to the rest of the house what he had just done. When my husband walked into the bathroom himself, he found a happy surprise in the boy's potty. We called him in to clean him and asked him again to tell us when he went. That was when I found a nice surprise on his underwear. Cleaned him up, changed his clothes, and again, moved on with life.

Another couple of hours later, I was giving our son a shower before his bedtime. He has a paintbrush in the shower that he likes to use to "paint" the walls. This evening, I found him sticking it in his butt for some odd reason. Perhaps he was trying to get clean, maybe he was just exploring, I have no idea. I asked him to take it out of his butt and he did. Not 5 minutes later, I find it in his mouth. I scared him pretty bad when I freaked out and screamed, "Ew, no, take that out of your mouth".

People keep telling me these are boy things and that I should get used to them. I guess I'll have to wait and find out what adventures our daughter has in store for us.
