I bought our son a small black potty from Ikea about 3 months ago. He has since shown the signs he is ready for potty training such as being aware of when he pees, removing his diaper when he poops, and going longer periods of time without actually peeing (control his urge). I personally have been a little lazy about it. I guess I just didn't know where to begin. I have usually let him go "nakey" right before bath time since he was a little baby. I feel naked time is very important. Since I bought the potty, during naked time I would pull it out and set it down, informing him that when he had to go pee pee he should go in the potty.
He almost always sits on it right away, and he runs to play and then will come back to sit some more. As of today he hadn't yet done any pee pee in the thing, so I was wondering what step I need to take to get him started in the potty trained direction.
I must have already taken that step with what I did because tonight after nakey time had begun, and he sat on the potty, we both went about our routines. I was sitting on the couch when I notice he stood up from the potty, turned around, and proceeded to pee pee right into the potty until he was done. YAY!
I congratulated him, shrieked with excitement and grabbed the camera. He pulled out his new word "Cheese" and gave me a huge smile while I snapped the photo. Then he stuck his hand in the potty. HA HA! It was OK because I taught him to wash his hands after going pee pee anyway. My son has made this huge milestone, without any force, and in his own time! I'm so happy. I hope he continues to do this.
