Zimmer Museum

I had been wanting to go to the Zimmer Children's Museum for such a long time now. We finally got to go! It's a great museum over by Miracle Mile and it is inside the Goldsmith Jewish Federation Center. I had read a few fun descriptions on the place talking about the great activities for kids to learn, explore, and imagine. The first place I had heard about it was through this great website that lists all the museums in LA that participate in the EBT free entry program. Anyone who has a California EBT card can get their whole household into each participating museum free, as often as they wish. I think it's a wonderful way to help those who don't have a lot of money, still enjoy art, and help their kids learn a lot outside school and home. I'm a major fan of museums, and everyone should be allowed to see them.

The Zimmer Museum was amazing and I could probably write all day about it. I didn't get pictures in every room they had there... but I caught quite a few. What I can remember them having is a reading and storytelling room, a padded bounce room, a play cafe, a play market, a mini play temple, a magnetic alphabet board, a tree house, a dress up area, a play airplane, a building block area, a water flow table, a musical computer section, a medical and ambulance play area, an art area (including the awesome large magnetic mad libs) and I know I am missing a couple. There are also some meeting and party rooms. Everything is small sized and ideally it's the perfect place for the preschool aged child. My son had a blast for over two hours and he threw a fit when we left because he was having such a great time.

It's two levels, and very secure. The bottom floor is where most of the action is, and it's one large circle with two very kid friendly and well equipped bathrooms. It's not as large as it sounds though, so if you can avoid taking a stroller in you should out of respect for the other visitors. We had some pretty rude people there that day that parked and locked their double stroller right in the way of all the fun stuff. No food is allowed in so try to catch lunch before or after your visit. And remember the most important part... they aren't open very long, so show up early when they open and get the most out of this awesome experience for your kids.

Things to know before you get there... You can park for free in their parking lot, but note that they will make you stop your car and open it for a full inspection for their own safety. Also, inside you will have your bags checked thoroughly and you walk through a metal detector. Not that anyone with kids should have anything dangerous on them that would pose a threat, but if you get the strange urge to go out with a gun or knife, I highly suggest you don't!
