As a mother I am aware of the symptoms that come along with having a baby who is teething. Due to the pain of a tooth pushing through their unbroken gums they may end up with sleep difficulties, loss of appetite, irritability and fussiness. Tough things to deal with, especially when they aren’t able to tell you what is wrong and how you can make it better. So, you end up playing a guessing game. What I never imagined was that maybe adults go through it also.
This last year has been a tough one for my husband and I. Many arguments have gone on which ultimately confused both of us. We both end up feeling as if the other is completely out of their mind, and then we argue about that. We have tried just about everything we can think of to get back to the happiness we had before our son was born. We talked things out, we compromised, we spent time apart, we spent more time together, etc etc. At a time when I began to think that maybe we just didn’t have anything in common any longer he brought an amazing discovery to my attention.
My husband officially had part of his first wisdom tooth pop through. Since he is 24 years old I never gave it a through in the past, I thought he had told me his already grew in. It’s a very small corner of the tooth, but nonetheless, a part of tooth. Which can only mean he has been teething right? I began to wonder if maybe the same symptoms babies get can apply to adults as well.
I myself have been feeling my wisdom teeth coming in, and I know the pain can make me irritable. In fact I have been known to use my sons teething medication to ease the discomfort. When I was 12 I had an x-ray done of my mouth before the braces were to be put on. At that time we discovered that I had 4 wisdom teeth growing in completely horizontal! A concern, yet they said they would wait until after the braces to remove them. That day never came for one too many reasons and here I sit at 23 years old wondering if they have been the cause of my 4 year long streak of debilitating headaches.
Maybe it is possible that his, or my own teething have been causing us problems and arguments. The chances are slim though and in fact I may just be looking for a simple reason as to why we have had issues. Most likely it is just that we are two people who changed our lives by moving in together and having a baby all in the same year. People grow and change and have to learn to live together constantly. However, it has gotten me to seriously consider going in to have my wisdom teeth pulled so at least I’d know for sure if they are what causes my headaches or not.
